Hallmark to unveil the monster makers

You know horror’s hot when even the Hallmark Channel is tackling the genre; the station will air the soon-to-roll original movie THE MONSTER MAKERS this Halloween. "The story is about a 13-year-old boy who works with his mom in a retirement home," explains producer Kevin Bocard. "They’re moving in a guy they know as a banker, and it turns out that he was an actor in old B-movies. He tells the kid, ‘You can take anything you want out of my attic,’ and the boy finds a ’50s monster movie that has never been released. He takes it home and watches it on Halloween night, and the monsters come out of the movie—so now he has to figure out how to destroy them."
The trio of creatures will be created by Robert Hall, who has contributed memorable work to the last couple of seasons of TV’s BUFFY and ANGEL. "One of then is called Manikin, a living dummy who wants to replace his own parts with human parts," Bocard says. "The next is Vermin, a were-rat in the Lon Chaney creature tradition, and the final one is Revenant, a ghost that possesses people." Written by Marc Hershon, THE MONSTER MAKERS is scheduled to roll in March; Kyle Clark and Brian Gordon will produce with Bocard, and Dan (HALLOWEEN: H20) Gross and Steve (THE CROW: SALVATION) Squillante are the executive producers. A director is currently being sought.
